Sound games

Imagine board games translated into sound games: The Nim game, sonarObjective ActionTopography, maze, The Target or Loups Garous and villagers are 7 games that the composer Sébastien Roux And his teammates invented. In a few fun and training sessions, they propose to teach you to play them then during the festival in the presence of the public.
No need to be a musician; We play with specially designed sound objects, we follow the rules, we listen, we develop strategies... Sound games, it is a sound and musical experience, both very playful ... and serious.

To participate is to commit to:
– a day of training from the Wednesday, 9 August
– 1 to 2 rehearsal sessions 10 and 11 August (morning)
– game sessions as part of the festival's programminges 10 and 11 Augt.

14:00 – Mathias Forge

Georgette K7

[ DOMEYROT – PRAIRIA / FESTIVAL SITE ]
MathiasForge

Mathias Forge is a singular artist, one of the ones we need to blur categories, labels and formats. First of all trombonist, he extends his attention to all kinds of realities and sound reality is no longer enough: there is also the context, the landscape, the inhabitants, the animal tracks... The musician discovers that he can move in a thousand ways, experience all kinds of gestures and movements, that musicality fits wherever attention is paid.
Thus, Georgette K7 is not quite an artistic performance, not really a concert, not a choreography either and is not reduced to a simple survey of a piece of territory. So what else remains a presence that can modulate between grace and ridicule, between depth and appearance, between narrative and astonishment.

Being obliged to admit that everything I do is of no use, I asked my mother for advice to help me. I move, I talk, I do actions, and my mother enlightens them with her piercing eyes. I very much hope that this show will serve something, or at worst, someone.

Two performances of Georgette K7 are proposed at 2.30 p.m. and 4.30 p.m.

Sound Games No.1

[DOMEYROT – PRAIRIA / FESTIVAL SITE]
SebastienRoux1

This year, the red thread is not given to a set but to the composer Sébastien Roux which offers a ginned course throughout the three days of the festival. Among these proposals, participative sound pieces based on mathematical games. You can register, good atmosphere guaranteed !

Sébastien Roux (1977) imagine situations of listening. through algorithm, play, movement, spatialization, diagram, it articulates two complementary notions: perception of form and forms of perception. His work takes various forms: commented listening sessions with speakers, concerts with projection of graphic scores, sound installations, in situ performance.
He graduated from the Master Atiam, Multidisciplinary Training in Music Sciences.
He works with the Dadalus, Thymes, Omedoc, 0 sets.
He collaborates regularly with Célia Houdart (author), Olivier Vadrot (scenographer), DD Dorvillier (choreographer), Diane Blondeau (plasticist), Vincent Menu (graphist).
He received orders from Deutschlandradio Kultur, WDR, ZKM, RSR, GRM... He works regularly with the CNCMs. He was the winner of the Villa Medici outside the walls (USA, 2012). He was a resident of Villa Medici in Rome (2015-2016).

http://www.sebastieroux.net/https://soundcloud.com/sebastien-roux-2/

My practice is organized around two complementary ideas that I call the perception of form and forms of perception.
I invite the listener to adopt a posture that unites listening to concepts and listening to the sound phenomenon. In my plays, I try to pass on to the public the rules that govern music. I leave from the assumption that when the listener hears the form, he acquires quickly, or almost immediately, the «solfeggio» at work in the room. The shape is «In front of his ears». A more egalitarian relationship is established between listener on one side and work and author on the other.
Whether the production is electronic or instrumental, whether the score is conventional, verbal, graphic or command line, my music is algorithmic. It takes the form of instructions to be carried out in a precise order in order to incarnate in a «result» sound not perfectly predictable (or imaginable) before its realization, nor completely unpredictable.
This experimental approach to composition is close to the game: to set up a system whose rules will be followed and the outputs observed but whose outcome is unknown.
So for several years, I've been dreaming of a score that takes the form of a game rule, a concert that takes the form of a tournament.
These reflections materialized during the reading of the mathematical theory of games and especially during my meeting with mathematician researcher Aymeric Stamm: a meeting initiated by Athenor scene nomad – CNCM of Saint-Nazaire in the framework of his projects Arts Sciences developed with the Laboratory of Mathematics Jean-Leray of the University of Nantes.
Accompanied by Clement Lebrun and Diane Blondeau, our ambition is to imagine musical scores that are like sound translations of mathematical games. The result will take the form of a concert tour where a group of performers « will play the games » sound. A performance where the audience will be involved.
The creative residences will take place during the 2021-22 season, between the design of sound objects and scenography, the development of games... and experimentation with a group of volunteers, young and adults, combining students in Fine Arts, conservatory students or music schools, etc.
Sébastien Roux, January 2022

Nim Two or three groups of performers produce sounds. Two players successively arrest members of the groups.
The winning player is the one who produces silence.

Sonar : Both teams are back to back in the game space. In this collaborative game, we must reproduce the sound and spatial proposal given by the other team, based solely on listening. The game is won when both teams manage to imitate each other.

It should be noted that Sébastien Roux's Sonores Games will be published at the Vroum editions This year.

Tuba solo

Improvising tubists performing (among other things) solo are not legion, and Germany is home to much of it: We'll remember Peter Kowald which will then delay the instrument for double bass but can still be understood for example Pinguin Moschner English Robin Hayward in Berlin. Carl Ludwig Hübsch is part of this line of musicians who dramatically extend the snorkel's sound vocabulary, which is believed to have very limited musical function. The tuba becomes a generator of surprising materials subject to a thousand contrasts according to the whole commitment of its manipulator...

Tuba player, improviser and renowned composer, Carl ludwig Hübschstudied, mainly in self-taught, tuba, singing, drums and composition in Fribourg and Cologne. Participating in international collaborations in jazz, new music and improvisation, he composes for «Active interpreters» and improvisers, theatre productions and visual installations. In addition to its own projects, such as the Hübschs Longrun Development of the UniverseHübsch acht (byte), Drift and Hübschs Primordial Soup, he foundedSet X and co-directs the Multiple Joy Orchestra. Sound game No.3: Action/Object

[DOMEYROT, CHAPITEAU ]

Third sound game proposed by Sébastien Roux and his team directed by the participants of the festival: Action/object, a cooperative game where players must find, from a barter system and in a limited number of hits, the instrument which corresponds to the action they must perform during the game.

Follow-up by:

Cannons on split screen

[DOMEYROT, CHAPITEAU ]
Canons1

This creation originates in the Guns said of Vuza. These cannons have two specific features: the different voices of the cannon never overlap and once all the voices have entered, all the time is occupied. Written in a sound search for percussion – played by Stéphane Garin – and filmed by multiplying a fixed plane on the hands of the percussionist, these cannons operate a fascinating and hypnotizing sound phenomenon.

Production: West Reversal. Coproduction : Gmem CNCM, Marseille – Whynote, Dijon. Revers Ouest is supported by the Ministry of Culture – DRAC Burgundy Franche-Comté.

Layers

[ CLUGNAT SPANISH]

© Yann Le Flohic

Umlaut Quartet : Amaryllis Ticket and Clara Levy : violin, Fanny Paccoud : alto, Sarah Ledoux : cello – Joris Rühl : clarinet

Layers is a project that mirrors two works for clarinet and string quartet:

Layers (2020) by Karl Naegelen
Clarinet and string quartet (1983) by Morton Feldman

In these pieces, each in their own way, the two composers play with the sound planes, using the effects of transparency and the fusion of the stamps. in German the word stamp is said elsewhere «klangfarbe»literally « sound colour », a word that evokes better than in French stained glass, light, layer.

Karl Naegelen and Morton Feldman both question the relationship between the clarinet and quartet sounds; Both seek to highlight heterogeneity, sometimes to erase it, and in general to walk along the continuum that connects these two extremes. While they share research on these issues of transparency and sound fusion, these two pieces are nevertheless motivated by very different concerns.

Production: Umlaut Records.Co-produced by the UCLouvain, with the support of the collective AUT, Koda Kultur and the National Music Centre.

17:00 – Pom Bouvier B. & Patricia Dallio

Meeting electro-acoustic improvisation

[ BOISSATTE – CLUGNAT ]
PomPatricia

Sometimes we create encounters between artists who do not know each other or who have never played together. Thus this duo born of intuition that these two musicians have things to share because of their mutual sensitivity and the accuracy of their work on electro-acoustic matter. We will be all ears for this beautiful meeting.

Pom Bouvier b. explores for many years various fields of the artistic scene His practice, though focused on music for the last ten years, feeds on plastic arts, cinema, literature, science, philosophy. She studied Fine Arts in Grenoble and then in Lyon from 1985 to 1990. In 2004, she trained at the INA on sound exploitation techniques and then entered Lucie Prodhomme's electroacoustic composition class in Marseille in 2006. It composes pieces of electroacoustic music, sometimes mixing instrumentalists, light or a place, in the same way.
His work in experimental music is a vibrational and body search. Here music is a way to create perceptive spaces where the subject would be in each listener. The music is set in spaces that mix images and installations.
His collaborations are numerous and varied. They are shared research on time and its development space.
https://pombouvierb.blogspot.com/

Throughout his journey, which begins with learning the piano, Patricia Dallio freed from stylistic boundaries to experience eclectic musical experiences ranging from jazz to rock to experimental and contemporary music. Her meeting with the Art Zoyd group, which she joined at the age of twenty (in 1979), will last thirty years. Since 2009, she has devoted herself totally to the Sound Track Company she co-founded in 1990 with Cyril Dumontet. The meetings with many collaborators, directors, choreographers, musicians, artists, directors and dancers are often decisive and fuel his creative work. It is these exciting collisions that give her the full meaning of transdisciplinarity in the works she creates for the stage. In his creations and in the way they are staged, the text, the voice, the movement and the sound are not in relationships of autumn coexistence but in a reactive and interdependent complementarity. All the elements are intermingling, influencing, shaking and wearing, fighting against each other and supporting each other.
His future projects are more than ever linked to improvisation and artistic encounters.

Structure-Couple

[DOMEYROT, CHAPITEAU ]
Structure

Contemporary dance is sometimes present at the festival with an interest in singular forms inclined to upset our perceptions and shake our comfort. And in the case of this project, we make a big difference with our desire not to offer music whose forms are rooted in our collective memory since Structure Couple is precisely based on a popular song although cleverly deconstructed by the musician...

Couple structure is a collaboration that we have led to two since 2014 through a series of choreographic and performative miniatures, in complicity with musician Jean-Luc Guionnet.
Year in year, we shape our bodies in mirror one another, between unison and desynchronization, ensuring that we do not smooth out our singularities. Our indivision becomes a couple, whose identity is forged in every room. Our dance develops more from a doing together than from a choreographic desire: we build our technique that becomes a know-how. It is in the crossing of a common vertigo that our challenge to continue is to achieve together what each cannot achieve without the other.
Each piece originated in the particular choice of a song, often from the popular repertoire. From the active listening of his poetic and rhythmic universe, we make emerge a common game, which is like the dance signature of this song. The structure of the pieces is then defined by the looping of the song and a proper sound treatment: it is in this repetition that the choreographic traverse arises, marked by the obstinate performance of a matrix gesture.
Our desire to work on repetition responds to the need to take the time to observe and understand the need for gestures, and to bring about the flaws they contain. It is also a matter of testing their degradation in the physical test of endurance and duration, to make it emerge from infinite variations

Lea Ros : design and interpretation – Eric Banse : sound creation and governance

It's a castlet puppet: a headless coat, a head without a leg, a head full of... arms? It is a strange being, a spectrum, an ogre, a presence that fascinates and scratches. This being has the faculty, in a suspended time, to entertain us by diverting our mind to elsewhere.

After studying plastic arts, Lea Ros form at the school of Art and Technique of the Actor Claude Mathieu then she takes a professional training of puppeteer actress at the Theatre with bare hands under the direction of Alain Recoing. She then formed the masked game with Matteo Destro.
For her creations, she likes to build a puppet and question this character to deploy a singular universe and history, rather than digging a pre-established topic or speech. It plays with the notions of presences, whether in the way one lends a life to objects, as in the schizophrenic relations of manipulator and manipulator.

Disappearances

By the whole Thymes : Cyprien Busolini (alto), Yannick Guédon (voice) and Judith Hamann (Cello)

Disappearances is a piece for an instrumental and electronic trio. The play questions 8 situations listening around the question of « disappearance » :

How does a sound disappear?
Does he leave room for silence?
What is it replaced by?

When we became aware of his disappearance, how long has he been missing? Is it a sound illusion: perhaps the sound never existed?

Located around the musicians and in the middle of the speakers, listeners are invited to an experience of listening and perception.

Duo

[ SINGLE GOUZON, SPANISH JARDINS ]
JeanLuc_Seijiro

These two have long been together, sharing in the practice of improvisation a good way for them to mix sounds and silences. It's always about the popping of sound, always precise, always changing, like so many objects that are laid there in space. A form of sound poetry.

After studying plastic arts and philosophy in Paris 1 Sorbonne, Jean-Luc Guionnet is devoted to music and sound arts, through the acousmatic composition (Non-organic bias), instrumental composition (Distances ouïtes-dites), instrumental improvisation with saxophone and organ (Hubbub, The Ames Room, Bending Contumax, Window Dressing), radio creation (CAB for France Culture), the creation of sound installations (Stones, Air, Axioms, Inscape) or musical composition for dance (Catherine Diverrès, Structure-couple). At the same time, he continues a plastic work mainly related to drawing, and a theoretical research through texts serving as the basis for conferences or published in various aesthetic journals.
https://jeanlucguionnet.eu/

Born in Nagasaki, Japan, Seijiro Murayama, composer and musician – percussionist and drummer – has lived for several years in France and has been performing improvised music since 1982.
His work is focused, in particular, on the collaboration between music and other artistic activities: dance (Catherine Diverrès), video (Olivier Gallon), paintings (François Bidault), photos (Purpose.fr), literature, philosophy (Jean-Luc Nancy, Ray Brassier), performance (Diego Chamy)... This does not prevent him from having many purely sound projects with Jean-Luc Guionnet, Pascale Criton, Eric La Casa, Axel Dörner, Toshiya Tsunoda, Thomas Brinkmann... For him, improvisation is a major artistic concern even though, in public, he does not always exercise this practice. Its approach is based on attention to space and instead, to the energy of the public and in particular to the quality of silence at different levels (physical, social, ontological). His pieces are real sound performances, taking into account the musical dimension of the place, the resonating games of its volumes, its architecture.

In order to familiarize ourselves with the traditional dances that will be in honor of the final ball, Eléonor Lemaire offers a smooth practice time and music.

Eléonor Lemaire is graduated as a dance specialty cultural mediator and currently works as an intercultural leader for the Une Terre Culturelle association.
She has practiced classical and contemporary dance since very little – with different teachers in France (Nathalie Ageorges, Stéphanie Bégassat, Audrey Mahiddine, Véronique Larcher) and in Germany (Isabelle Linden, Nicole Baumann, Judith Hölscher) – and completed the pedagogy and anatomy training with Véronique Larcher (2017 school year).
She was part of the university dance company It's not us. in 2011-2012 and participated in several multidisciplinary artistic projects as an interpreter and co-choreographer (« Hockertanz » , Festival TanzArt OstWest Giessen, 2009 – « Home stills » Hildesheim, 2013 – « Know the bags! » Ouagadougou, 2015). Since 2012, she has regularly worked with children and adults for workshops/stages of body expression and traditional dances of the world (Hildesheim, Ouagadougou, Marseille).

Laurent Boulanger returns to the festival with his Ouscrapo (Ouvroir de SCRAbblologie POtentiel).
he rules are the same as in Scrabble except that:

- Players from the audience are called for the occasion GA, BU, ZO and MEU (MEU being always Bertrand Boulanger, your humble game guide)
-Players are invited to invent new words with their definition.
-When it's his turn, the player comes to the table, installs his proposal and reveals its meaning to the public.
-If a player finds a word that suits him but without his definition, the audience very involved in the game can offer him one.
– Aurthograph counts for butter (sweet).
- Points are not recorded (side points).
-With the emphasis on poetry (immediate), the great winner is the collective imagination.
-The part concludes with the collection of definitions, MEU reserving the most tricky of them in order to publish them in a small (annual) collection.
