AS LONG AS BREATH OR BOW explores a structure of distinct heights articulated through a particular improvisation system. Interpreters must apply 10 rules that accumulate or shrink throughout the room. These rules contain specific constraints and possibilities concerning rhythm, stamp, dynamics and time. Rules often co-exist and interpreters must calculate multiple possibilities on the field with the given materials. The only interpreter who is outside this system of rules is the percussionist who creates behind the whole a constant texture of resonances using metals, cymbals and gongs captured very closely by microphones and amplified. The severe metal frequencies combined with superposition orchestration create a wide « meta-instrument » – a unified set in constant evolution titubant over time.
