A piece for percussion all in delicacy and bearing what is probably the longest title in the history of contemporary music: « But What About The Noise Of Crumpling Paper What He Used To Do In Order To Paint The Series Of « Frozen paper » Gold Tearing Up Paper To Make « Dechire paper? » Arp Was Stimulated By Water (Sea, Lake, And Flowing Waters Like Rivers), Forests » was written by John Cage in 1985 for the Percussions of Strasbourg on the occasion of the centenary of painter Jean Arp. This title is in fact the response of Greta Ströh, the exhibition commissioner, to a request by John Cage. This piece is for a number of 3 to 10 performers playing with at least two instruments of different and slightly resonant families as well as paper, water or any other sound element not easily identifiable.
